In order to ensure the operational preparedness of the Bulgarian Deposit Insurance Fund (BDIF) for the payout of guaranteed deposits, pursuant to Article 29 of the Bank Deposit Guarantee Act, the BDIF is required to carry out regular stress tests of the deposit guarantee system at least once every three years, or whenever information is received from the Bulgarian National Bank indicating problems in a bank that could lead to the activation of the deposit guarantee system.
From an operational perspective, the BDIF conducts stress tests of the deposit guarantee system in accordance with the Programme for conducting stress tests of the deposit guarantee system over a three-year period. The results of these tests are reported both to the Bulgarian National Bank and to the European Banking Authority.
For the purposes of determining the information to be submitted by banks, the Management Board of the BDIF has adopted Guidelines on the content and format for the provision of information to the Bulgarian Deposit Insurance Fund for the purposes of payout and testing of the deposit guarantee system, effective as of 1 June 2024.
